It all started in a small home bakery
The foundation of Annas was laid back in 1929 in the home bakery of sisters Anna and Emma Karlsson in Östermalm, Stockholm. The sisters baked gingerbread cookies and other small cookies with great success before the business was sold to the Mattsson family in the mid-1960s. In November 2008, the company was acquired by the Belgian family business Lotus Bakeries, and today Annas is present in more than 20 countries with around 50 percent of the production being exported.
A secret recipe
Do you want to know how to bake one of the world's most beloved ginger thins? We can reveal the ingredients in our basic recipe from 1929, but not the proportions, which are a well-preserved secret. In addition to flour, sugar, baking soda, and fat, classic gingerbread spices such as ginger, cinnamon, and cloves are also included.
Baked in Tyresö
We bake our gingerbread cookies in Tyresö. When production increases for the Christmas season, a wonderful scent of freshly baked gingerbread cookies can spread across nearby frosty forests and fields.
